Moxibustion

Moxa for short

  • Moxa is dried mugwort leaf and is burned like incense. Classically it is often used in conjunction with acupuncture.

  • Held near the body it warms essential points to energize your system and is even used to coax a breech baby to turn.

  • Studies have shown its use has increased white blood cells and enhanced immune system strength.

Gentle yet powerful

Studies in the efficacy of Moxibustion use with TB patients were conducted in both Korea and Africa.

The African study conducted by Makerere University's School of Health Sciences, Uganda (funded and supported by Moxafrica) found that people

  • Conversion to sputum negative was faster when using moxa, particularly in the early stages of therapy

  • Moxa patients had increased levels of Hemoglobin in the blood (that’s good!)

  • In the Korean Ministry of Public Health study

    • Patients treated with moxa recovered in almost half the time of those who were not treated with moxa

    • The most exciting of the findings involved cases of MDR-TB. Currently, the success rate for treating MDR-TB included in the most recent WHO Global TB report is a lowly 55% which is widely accepted as being too low to contain this disease. The control group in this study was reported as having a 60% success rate which is quite similar to the global rate. However, the moxa group reported an 85% success rate which is a a hike of 42%.(1)
